Illustrious Sir
Dan Moyer
Potentate
2008
IS Dan was born and
raised in East
Multnomah County. He
presently lives
within five miles of
his childhood home.
Professionally, Dan
has worked in the
public sector his
entire career. After
obtaining his degree
in Civil Engineering
from Mt. Hood
Community College,
he started work with
the Oregon State
Department of
Transportation.
During his time with
the state, he worked
on highway projects
from Gold Beach to
Wagontire and
Troutdale to
Lakeview. After 6 ½
years, he accepted a
position with the
City of Lake Oswego
as their
Construction
Engineer. He stayed
in Lake Oswego for
three years, at
which time a
position became
available with the
City of Portland
Water Bureau.
In the 9 ½ years
that Dan worked with
the Water Bureau, he
inspected several
major construction
projects. The East
County Well Field
and the Washington
County Supply Line
were two of his
notable jobs. He has
the distinction of
being the last
person to inspect
the interiors of all
three main pipelines
from Bull Run to Mt.
Tabor, 27 ½ miles
each, from the
inside. Now they use
television cameras!
When projects became
slow at the Water
Bureau, Dan moved
over to the Portland
Department of
Transportation
Engineering. He
oversaw construction
on all phases of
Airport Way, the
Downtown Transit
Mall, the East Bank
Esplanade, the
Springwater Corridor
Bike Path and many
other projects
throughout the
Portland
Metropolitan area.
He retired from the
City in 2003, but
was soon called back
to work on the
Chinatown
Restoration. His
retirement will
resume at the end of
2007.
Fairview Lodge in
Troutdale raised Dan
to the degree of
Master Mason on
April 8, 1981. He
has been Worshipful
Master 4 times and
is currently their
Treasurer. He is a
recipient of the
Hiram Award and the
Grand Master’s Youth
Award. He was a
District Deputy of
District #9, as
well.
In the 1990’s, Dan
started East County
Chapter, Order of
DeMolay in Gresham.
He worked with this
Chapter for over 7
years and built it
to one of the
largest in the
state. He was
awarded the Cross of
Honor, Guild of the
Leather Apron,
Advisor of the Year
and Legion of Honor
by Oregon DeMolay.
He served as Chapter
Chairman at
Milwaukie DeMolay
and is currently
working as an
advisor with the
newly formed Al
Kader Chapter in
Wilsonville.
The Order of Eastern
Star, Scottish Rite
and Job’s Daughters
have all benefited
from Dan’s
membership, as well.
He served as Worthy
Patron at Troutdale
Chapter over 10
times and was
Associate Bethel
Guardian for 7
terms. He hopes to
finish the degree
work at Scottish
Rite as soon as time
permits.
Dan and Jennifer met
through their
involvement in
Eastern Star and
were married in the
Troutdale Masonic
Center in June of
1983. They waited
until after Grand
Chapter and asked
permission from the
Worthy Grand Matron.
In 2008, they will
celebrate their 25th
anniversary. They
have 4 children,
three boys and a
daughter. Currently,
they have three
grandchildren, but
in February they are
expecting the
arrival of the
fourth, baby Daniel.
Dan joined Al Kader
Shrine in 1994 and
became a Kader Klown.
He was named Rookie
Klown of the Year in
1995. He also became
a member of the Al
Kader Caravaners and
served as President
of the Western
Shrine Association
of Shrine Campers in
2006. Their annual
rally was held in
Wilsonville that
year. In 2004 he was
invited to become an
Artisan in the
Multnomah Teocali of
the Order of
Quetzalcoatl and he
proudly accepted.
Teamwork,
cooperation and
communication are
the principles that
Dan works and lives
by. He takes pride
in his family, work
and his Masonic
affiliations. He
plans to bring those
qualities to Al
Kader in 2008.
